The Water Park is the first Spanish park to receive this award (previously given to projects in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand...).

The Green Flag Award recognizes overall park management, taking into account parameters such as accessibility, gardening, safety, environmental impact, promotion, management plan, future plans, etc. Last May, an international jury travelled to the Water Park to study all required documentation and inspect the park's spaces. 

This award makes the Water Park the most awarded european urban park (13 awards, of which 9 are international recognitions). Among the recognized projects, the Water Park is the only European park to hold a "Green Globe" award which recognizes the park's environmental management, the only Spanish park to hold the AENOR certificate and the only European park nominated by the USA's City Parks Alliance. 

The Water Park, within the International Expo district in Zaragoza, opened its 120 hectares to the public in 2008. It is operated by 35 gardeners, hydraulic operators and other personnel from the municipality. The park hosts over 20 activities which participate in its management and bring the park to life.
